QUESTION #9
From: Judy

Question: I would like the quizzes in a printable format. Do you offer that?

Answer: No, I'm sorry. At this time, AllQuizzes.Net offers online quizzes only.

QUESTION #8
From: Jay

Question: Hi Polly, I read the FAQ page. I have signed up for this as a parent, for the use of my son who is a fifth grader. I hope it's okay. Regards, Jay

Answer: Thanks, Jay. Yes, I have many parents who purchase access to the quizzes to use with their children at home, either for homeschooling or for extra tutoring. When I worked as a media school specialist and when I taught middle school reading, I found that many children made substantial gains in improving their reading comprehension skills when they were asked to read one chapter or one short section of a book (as opposed to a whole book at one time) and then asked to take a quiz on that chapter or book section. Doing so provides children, particularly children who are just starting out reading chapter books or who struggle with reading comprhension skills, a strong sense of accomplishment and provides them with the self-confidence and motivation to keep reading. I hope that this will be the case for your son.

QUESTION #7
From: Trey

Question: Thanks for the great website! My students are really enjoying the site. Lately, students have experienced a problem when printing out reports. On the printed report, it shows every question as being the same. The responses are different and it still scores the test, but the questions are all the same. This is only on the print-out, but I thought you should know. Thanks!

Answer: Thank you so much for letting me know, Trey. That error was caused by a glitch in the program I use to convert the quizzes to electronic format. I later found a work-around for the problem, but by the time I realized that the problem existed, I had already converted several of my quizzes. I am systematically working to correct the error. However, it's not an error that can be fixed quickly. I am correcting the error, beginning with the chapter quizzes at a rate of approximately one chapter quiz set per week. The printing error for all of the chapter quizzes will be corrected by September 1, 2011. The printing error for all of the whole book quizzes will be corrected by March 15, 2012.

QUESTION #6
From: Dan

Question: Polly, how do individual students get access to a quiz? How does the program keep records of each child's scores? Is there a way to print the questions?

Answer: Hi, Dan. As stated in the Access Pass FAQ, AllQuizzes.Net is not currently set up to provide any kind of individual tracking for students. All students sign in using the same User Name and Password, the one that was provided to you in your Welcome Email.

Also, right now there is not a way to print the questions. The quizzes are intended to be taken only online. However, teachers and parents are more than welcome to type out the questions themselves to use in a written format.

QUESTION #5
From: Shelly

Question: I see that you are constantly adding new chapter quizzes and new whole book quizzes. Will you also be adding new math quizzes?

Shelly, I may occasionally add to the Standards-Based Math Quiz Collection, but the math quizzes are not a priority at this time. Rather, the Standards-Based Math Quizzes are just sort of a bonus for my customers who are mainly interested in my chapter and book quizzes.

QUESTION #4
From: Lauren

Question: My new login and password did not work. Is giving me the error message that the login and password doesn't exist.... I need to access this site ASAP...thanks.

Answer: Lauren, when I use your User Name and Password, I am able to log into the quizzes. Would you mind trying one more time? If that doesn't work, let me know, and I'll send you a new User Name and Password right away.

In the meantime, if you are selecting the User Name (or Password), copying it, and then pasting it into the log-in box, please make sure that you are not selecting an extra space or two. If you do that and then you paste the User Name and Password into the log-in box, it will give you an error message. One way to avoid this is to type the User Name and Password into the appropriate box rather than to copy and paste it.

QUESTION #3
From: Terry

Question: Are you going to be adding the Missouri State Awards to your quiz list? I am mainly interested in the Truman Awards, but there is also the Mark Twain and Gateway Awards.

Answer: Hi, Terry--Thank you for your inquiry. At this point, my customer demand seems to be more for chapter quizzes than it is for whole book quizzes. When I write the chapter quizzes, I try to select titles that seem to be most commonly used in classrooms across the country. Sometimes these titles (such as Heat, by Mike Lupica) come from the state lists. However, many of them do not.

I will continue to add whole book quizzes slowly, but only some of those quizzes will be from state awards lists. My method for selecting titles from the state awards lists is that I start with the lists from the four states from which I get the most sales: California, Illinois, Florida, and North Carolina. After that, I compile a list of all the books from all of the state lists. Next, I put the titles of the books in order, giving priority to the books appearing at the top of the most state lists. Unfortunately, using that system, the Truman Award books are lower on the list than some other books, and so it will take me awhile to get to those titles. And unfortunately, it's possible that I may not get to them at all.

QUESTION #2
From: Jessica

Question: I may have missed this information in your profile, but how do I receive feedback regarding how each of my students score on a quiz? Thank you for your response to this inquiry.

Answer: At this time, AllQuizzes.Net does not provide any sort of tracking system for students taking quizzes. The way teachers and parents seem to use it right now is that they have their students take a quiz, and then the teacher walks over to the computer and writes down the student's score when the student is finished taking the quiz.

Alternatively, some teachers have students print the completed quiz, which will include the score that the student received on the quiz. Students then turn the printed quiz in to their teacher, and the teacher records the student's score at her convenience.

If you use the printed quiz method, there is a known technical issue with some of the quizzes printing out the questions incorrectly. The quizzes are still graded correctly, but the questions on the printed response form do not accurately reflect the questions that were asked in the quiz. Please see Question #7 for more information about this.

QUESTION #1
From: Amanda

Question: I have a couple of questions for you. When my students print out their test from your site, all of the questions are the same, regardless of which test they take; all of the questions print out as: When Asher was very young, he was often punished for:

I thought it was a bit strange, so I wanted to check with you.

The other question is about adding tests to your format. I often read books and write multi choice tests for them, this is one of the reasons I was so thrilled to find your site. Would you be interested in adding some of these tests? For example. I have two 20 question tests for Amulet 1-The Stonekeeper, and Amulet 2, The Stonekeeper’s Curse. I have other tests, also, but these two I had to come up with recently, as the graphic novels are SO popular with my students.

Let me know if you are interested in putting them into your format. Maybe if my quizzes are of value to you, I can get a discount when I renew next year, smile.

Thanks again for your site. I know it will save me some time, smile!

Answer: Hi, Amanda. Regarding your question about the printing error, please see Question #7 above.

As to your second question . . . the suggestion of creating a sort of pool of teacher-created quizzes is an intriguing idea that I may consider pursuing at some point in the future.

I see from your email that you are a licensed, experienced reading teacher with excellent qualifications. From your email alone, I can see that you are very intelligent and articulate, and I have no doubt that you could write effective comprehension quizzes. Right now, though, I think that the potential copyright issues (along with other issues) connected with your suggestion could become problematic enough that I don't feel comfortable with incorporating this idea at the present time. I do, however, appreciate your offer, and if I ever decide to branch out in the direction that you've suggested, I will definitely let you know.
